The city of Cumming has its first new mayor in almost a half-century.

Troy Brumbalow was sworn in Jan. 2 during a ceremony in the Cumming City Council chambers. Brumbalow defeated former mayor H. Ford Gravitt in the Nov. 7 general election. Gravitt had held the office since 1971, and had served as a city council member for four years before that. Brumbalow has started and operated several businesses locally.

Also sworn in were two new council members. Small business owner Jason Evans took the reins as the Post 2 council member. He beat longtime incumbent Quincy Holton in the Nov. 7 election. Construction company project manager Chad Crane was sworn into the Post 1 seat. He was declared the winner in a Dec. 5. runoff vote after he and opponent and banker Chuck Welch tied during the Nov. 7 voting.

Brumbalow told the crowd in the Council chamber he was looking forward to a new chapter in the city’s history.
