An alert resident of a Cherokee County subdivision is being credited with helping deputies catch two teenagers who allegedly broke into multiple vehicles in the neighborhood.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to the Bridgemill subdivision in reference to thefts from vehicles in progress, according to Cherokee Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker.

“Cherokee 911 advised deputies that a Bridgemill resident had witnessed the entering autos and that their spouse was following the suspects in their vehicle,” Baker said. “Thanks to the assistance from the citizen, deputies were able to locate the suspects and conduct a traffic stop inside Bridgemill.”

Baker said Shaquille Oneal Webb, 18, of Canton, was arrested and charged with two counts of entering auto, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A second teen, 17-year-old James Logan Ketchum of Canton, was charged with three counts of entering auto, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving with no license and theft of a motor vehicle. Ketchum, who Baker said allegedly stole his parent’s car, was also charged with breaking into a car on Friday night.

A 15-year-old juvenile was also in the car, but was not charged and was released to a guardian, Baker said.

Webb is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $7,335 bond, while Ketchum is jailed on $19,410 bond.

Baker said detectives have located at least three victims, but that number could rise.
