The murder trial of a man accused of shooting and killing an Atlanta man in his apartment began Monday, said Fulton prosecutors.

Kortez Hurt, 28, is charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and drug and weapons charges in the death of Michael Ray, 39, who died July 9, 2009, inside a Langston Avenue apartment complex.

The shooting occurred during a robbery attempt, according to a press release from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

Jury selection began Monday. Fulton County Senior Judge Stephanie Manis is presiding over the case.

An anonymous tip led to the arrest of Hurt a month after the shooting. While awaiting trial, he shot another Fulton County inmate in the hand, said prosecutors. That case is being investigated by the FBI.
