A break from metro Atlanta's heat wave is on the way as clouds and an increase in the chance of showers arrive during the early part of the work week.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz expects sultry conditions again Sunday.

"Sunday will be partly cloudy and hot again in the afternoon, back to the 90s, with another round of a few late-day showers and storms," Nitz said. The isolated storms "could pack a punch" with heavy downpours and gusty winds.

The chance of showers goes up next week, to 40 percent Monday and 60 percent Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will drop to the mid 80s by Wednesday. Nighttime lows will be in the low to mid 70s.

Thousands of north Georgians who had electricity disrupted from storms Thursday and Friday had their power restored by Saturday. Some pockets of northwest Georgia customers served by North Georgia EMC were still dealing with outages Saturday, though the lights were back on for most of the 12,000 who were left in the dark.
