The three remaining officers who were involved in a raid on an Atlanta gay bar in 2009 have been disciplined, the Atlanta Police Department said Friday.
Officer Jared Watkins was suspended without pay for four days and officers Dimitri Jacques and Dion Meredith were each issued written reprimands following hearings this week.
The punishments came one week after six Atlanta officers were fired for lying about what happened the night of the raid. Nine others were also disciplined.
On Sept. 10, 2009, 24 Atlanta officers from the vice unit and the now-disbanded Red Dog team stormed into the bar, ordering everyone to the floor and using anti-gay slurs.
Police said raid was prompted by reports of men engaging in sex in the bar. Eight people were arrested that night, but the charges were soon dropped or dismissed. A federal lawsuit was filed, which cost taxpayers more than $1 million to settle.
Late last month, the department released a 343-page report following a three-month investigation into the incident. Ten officers lied and six others destroyed evidence following the raid, according to the report.
