A baby was reunited with his mom after she was left inside a house fire, officials said.

The 9-month-old baby boy was rescued from the fire in the 4000 block of Bakers Ferry Road in Atlanta about 6:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Atlanta fire spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford said when crews arrived on the scene three people, including the baby’s mother, were outside the home screaming that the baby girl was still inside.

“The scene was hectic,” he said. “You had a mother looking at her house on fire and her kid’s inside.”

The family told firefighters the baby was on the second floor, Stafford said. The child was found under a bed with soot on him and smoke in his lungs. The baby was not crying.

The house sustained smoke and heavy fire damage on the second floor, Stafford said.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The baby was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
