Missing ex-Morehouse basketball player found in California

A former Morehouse College basketball player who was reported missing in early June was found at a homeless shelter in Southern California, police said Wednesday.

Detectives found Gerald Levert Dunn, who graduated from Morehouse last year, at a Santa Monica shelter after a nearly monthlong investigation into his disappearance.

Dunn, a former guard on the Morehouse basketball team, was reported missing by an aunt in Hiram last month after the family had not heard from him for a week. He was last seen at a hotel in Atlanta the week of June 4, where he was staying to get away from people, cousin previously told the AJC.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said there was no information available about Dunn’s reason for leaving the Atlanta area and that the case is closed since he was found safely.

Gerald Dunn’s mother Edgar Jean Dunn said her son had taken off in the past before, but that he always told family members where he was going. She said the family left Dunn several voicemails when he went missing but none was returned.

Dunn’s mother said he planned to join the Marines or go to medical school after graduation. She said Dunn had a job at Home Depot for a few months before he left for California.
