The family of a missing Forsyth County woman says the 49-year-old walked away from her home nearly two weeks ago without her purse or a cell phone. She hasn't been heard from since.

Laurie Marie Sheppa walked away from her basement apartment on Goldmine Drive in Cumming around 11 a.m. Aug. 19, said Capt. Frank Huggins with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. She was last seen wearing a T-shirt, shorts and brown leather sandals, he said.

Sheppa's landlord was the last person to see her that morning, brother-in-law James Drake told the AJC. Sheppa's apartment was left in disarray and the door was open, Drake said.

The family has checked with local hospitals, mental hospitals, cab companies and friends, but has been unable to find a trace of Sheppa, who does not have a driver's license and relied on public transportation, Drake said.

"We've eliminated everything," Drake said.

In addition to her personal items, Sheppa is also without her medication, Drake said. She relies on insulin to treat her diabetes. Sheppa has dealt with mental health problems in the past, Drake said.

Anyone with information about the woman is asked to contact the Forsyth sheriff's office at 678-513-5986 or 770-781-2222.
