Two kayakers reported missing on the Chattahoochee River in west Georgia on Monday night were found safe early Tuesday, authorities said.
Carroll County Emergency Management Agency director Tim Padgett said the kayakers, a man and woman visiting from Denmark, were reported missing about 9 p.m. Monday by a company that had rented kayaks to pair.
The manager of the kayak rental company had put them in the river about noon near Whitesburg, Padgett said.
They had planned to float about seven miles to McIntosh Reserve, a county park where they had left their vehicle.
When the kayakers didn't arrive by 9 p.m., the rental company manager called 911 and Carroll County rescue personnel began searching the river by boat.
The kayakers were found about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on the river bank downstream from McIntosh Reserve, Padgett said.
They had apparently missed their take-out point, and were trying to walk back to the park, he said.
