Miss Lake Lanier Shannon Murphy won the on-stage question preliminary Thursday. Murphy was asked about her platform, which is concerned with sexual consent education. Murphy said that she was sexually assaulted, and told her attacker “no” seven times during the assault. That experience led her to teach others that consent is dependent on many factors, including whether a person is inebriated and cannot give informed consent.

Miss University of Georgia Holly Haynes won the preliminary talent award for a vocal performance of “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” a jazzy standard from the musical “Showboat.”

In the teen competition, Miss Heart of Atlanta’s Outstanding Teen Rory Pan won her second preliminary award of the week. She won the talent competition performing a ballet en pointe routine, incorporating a large fan into the routine. Miss Atlanta’s Outstanding Teen Kassie Todd won the preliminary on-stage question and evening wear award, wearing an elegant blush gown and discussing the importance of literature education.

The final night of Miss Georgia's Outstanding Teen competition begins at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Miss Georgia finals start at 7 p.m. Saturday. Find out how to watch both here.
