A Milton father is facing disorderly conduct charges after police say he showed up to a coffee shop and threatened a group of middle school kids whom he believed had been bullying his daughter, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Police say James Toner and his wife also brought a “bodyguard” with them to shake down the kids and make them apologize about their alleged behavior, even though the police report says some of the kids had nothing to do with what happened.
Toner told Channel 2 the 11 and 12-year-old boys called his 11-year-old daughter racist names because she has a black boyfriend.
Mom Andrea Huels said her son and his friends were just hanging out when Toner confronted them, looking to “pick a fight,” she told police.
“Apparently the Toners and their bodyguard, as he was called, pulled up with their daughter, who’s also in the sixth grade and said they wanted my son,” Huels said.
Huels said her son ran off and texted her.
“They picked on his friends and said, ‘Are you gonna fight me, or do you want your parents to come fight me?’” Huels told Channel 2.
Milton Lt. Charles Barstow said Toner confronted the juveniles to the point where a physical altercation took place.
Police charged Toner with disorderly conduct, and he later turned himself into the Fulton County Jail.
“As a parent myself, I understand you always want to look out for your child and their best interest,” Barstow told Channel 2. “However, don’t take the law into your own hands.”
