The Milton City Council has approved a partnership agreement with the Crabapple Merchant Association for the fifth annual Crabapple Fest, Oct. 7.

The arts festival is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first Saturday in October at 12650 Crabapple Road in downtown Milton. The event features more than 100 antique and art vendors, children’s activities, music and food.

Under the agreement, the city is responsible for items including logistics, such as street closings and security; the children’s activity area; sponsorships; publicity and communications, and budgeting and financial records-keeping; and the merchants, for recruiting and managing the antique, art and food vendors and their tents, and reporting revenues and other monies collected.

Both parties agree to recruit volunteers and cooperate in a post-event evaluation. The cost to the city of the festival, budgeted at $24,508, will be offset with sponsorships estimated to be $8,000, according to a staff report to the council.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
