Milton plans to install its 11th and final tornado siren this summer in the Birmingham Highway (Ga. 372) corridor next to Birmingham Falls Elementary School.

The siren, intended to ensure the safety of nearby homeowners and school children, is to go on a heavily wooded lot owned by the city at 14795 Wood Road, officials said. It will be installed in July on a black pole roughly 40 feet tall,.

The siren will have to be sounded to test it. Milton will notify residents in advance via an official city email and on the city’s website and social media accounts.

The installation follows the discovery of a gap in the central area of Ga. 372 during the original design-build analysis for the weather warning system.

“The installation of the eleventh siren will assist with addressing that final gap,” according to a city announcement. “In addition, there are siren systems in Cherokee County, Alpharetta all along our southern border, and in Forsyth County, so we are surrounded by sirens that would also support our system’s reach should an incident occur.”
