A 22-year law enforcement veteran from upstate New York has been tabbed to lead Milton’s police department, the city announced Monday.

Steven Krokoff, 52, will join the department in March, said city manager Chris Lagerbloom. He will be Milton's second police chief, replacing Deborah Harrell, who left for the private sector after nearly eight years on the job.

Lagerbloom said Krokoff, married with two children, has family in the Atlanta area and was eager to relocate from the Albany police department.

“Chief Krokoff will be a dynamic asset to the city,” Lagerbloom said. “He joins us with a vast amount of experience, knowledge and service in the field. I have full confidence he’ll be able to bring his demonstrated success to our city and will capitalize on the incredible progress we’ve made.”

In addition to his law enforcement background, Krofkoff has a master’s in business administration and served on Habitat for Humanity’s board of directors.
