Milton Council denies Ebenezer Road rezoning
After approving a residential project only to see the mayor veto the action, the Milton City Council this week rejected the developer’s request to rezone 63.5 acres at 745 Ebenezer Road from agricultural to community unit plan for 48 single-family homes.
The Council’s 4-2 vote Monday, to deny the request by Brightwater Homes LLC, was the mirror image of a 4-2 favorable vote April 25 to rezone the land.
In vetoing that decision, Mayor Joe Lockwood cited citizen concerns about the procedure followed in approving the measure, perceptions that some were given undue advantage at the April meeting, and the lateness of the hour when the vote was taken. The Council failed to override Lockwood’s veto.
Council Member Karen Thurman recused herself from Monday’s vote; Council Member Rick Mohrig called in.
