Matilda Under the Pines, an outdoor music venue in Alpharetta for more than 15 years, would move to land on Hickory Flat Road in Milton under a proposal recently reviewed for first presentation by the Milton City Council. The proposal is scheduled to go before the Council for a final vote on June 18.

Matilda’s operator, Mary Jane Potter, wants to move the venue from Ga. 9 in Alpharetta, to be redeveloped, to the Buice General Store land in Milton, about 6.5 acres at 850 and 875 Hickory Flat Road. The “Hen House,” an old farm house whose covered porch is the music stage, also would move.

The land is zoned agricultural and community business and owned by Curtis Mill, according to a council agenda packet. Plans are being made to turn the Buice store into a full-service restaurant.

In exchange for a use permit for festivals or events, the city set certain conditions, including operations limited to 7 to 11 p.m., Friday or Saturday, April 1 through Oct. 31; adequate, handicapped-accessible, temporary bathroom facilities until permanent facilities can be provided; and specified fencing, setbacks and maximum noise levels.
