Police say it's now safe for students living on campus at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville go go outside.

Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, school officials warned students to stay inside while county and local law enforcement officers looked for suspects from a police chase. The car the men were in crashed into an apartment building across the highway from the schools' west campus and that is the reason students were alerted to the possible danger, said college spokesman Harry Battson.

About two hours later, police told school officials they no longer believed the suspects were in the campus area and "we could resume normal activity," Battson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher Joseph Patrick said there were at least two suspects but there could be as many as four.

The reason for the chase was not provided.
