Todd Markle will fill a vacant Superior Court judgeship, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday.
Markle, who currently serves as Deal's executive counsel, was a partner at Mabry & McClelland and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Mercer University.
He will fill the opening created by the resignation of Michael Johnson.

The Georgia Department of Public Health recently kicked off a public awareness campaign to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use.
The campaign includes ads that show the health risks as well as personal stories. Each ad will contain the toll-free Georgia Tobacco Cessation Quit Line at 1-877-270-7867 (STOP).
Lung cancer is a major problem in the state. In Georgia, more than 10,300 adults dies each year from tobacco-related diseases, according to department.

More than 100 mentally ill Georgians started receiving housing help in the past year as part of a statewide effort to improve community-based services.
The state Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities has helped 118 people in 31 counties find and afford housing. Some 164 people are looking for housing. Georgia has rolled out a variety of community services following an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, which investigated the abuse and deaths of patients in state mental institutions. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution revealed the abuse in a series of articles starting in 2007.
