A memorial service for Troy Anthony Davis, executed last week for a 1989 murder, is planned for Friday and there will be a funeral at the Jonesville Baptist Church in Savannah on Saturday.
The service Friday will 6-8 p.m. at the New Life Apostolic Temple on West Bay Street in Savannah. The funeral on Saturday-- called a celebration of life -- is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Organizers ask that donations be made to the I AM TROY DAVIS fund at the Capitol City Bank, P.O. Box 2105, Savannah, Ga. 31407, in lieu of flowers.

The Atlanta-based Southern Defender Training Center has been given the Emil Gumpert Award and $50,000 for its work training lawyers to represent indigent defendants across the South.
The American College of Trial Lawyers, which presented the award, hopes the cash prize will help cement the training center as "a free-standing nonprofit organization that changes lives, improves society and elevates the standards of the administration of justice," Michael Cooper, the group's president, said in a Sept. 22 letter to the center's founder, Jon Rapping. The Georgia Department of Community Health has issued 18 health care providers more than $6.4 million in incentive payments to encourage the use of electronic health records.
The federally-funded program, which launched in Georgia Sept. 5, is open to physicians, hospitals and other providers who treat a certain volume of Medicaid patients. They can receive up to $63,750 over six years through the program. The state agency said it expects to issue more than $400 million in payments in the next 10 years. JAIME SARRIO
