Douglas County District Attorney David McDade said Wednesday he will seek the death penalty against three men accused of last November's beating death of 18-year-old Bobby Tillman.

Four men were initially charged with murdering Tillman, picked at random moments after he left a party at a Douglasville house.

One defense attorney told McDade Tuesday 18-year-old Emanuel Boykins would plead guilty to avoid a death penalty trial; he allegedly threw the first punch. The other three defendants didn't offer to plead guilty by McDade's Wednesday deadline. RHONDA COOK

The state Board of Education will vote Thursday on the charter extension of a campus also approved by the defunct Georgia Charter Schools Commission.

Odyssey School/Georgia Cyber Academy, which will serve nearly 9,000 students this fall, had an application for renewal pending as a state charter special school when they received commission authorization.

Now that the commission was overturned by the state Supreme Court, the bricks-and-mortar school and its cyber campus could continue as a special charter. Their charter was recommended for a 5-year extension. D. AILEEN DODD
