The James M. Cox Foundation has pledged a $500,000 gift to the National Center for Civil & Human Rights, which is scheduled to open in 2013.
The gift will go into effect upon the Center’s ground breaking later this year, according to a release by Cox Enterprises, an Atlanta-based communications, auto services and media company with holdings that include The Atlanta Journal-Constitution .
Previously pledges include a $1 million contribution by the James M. Cox Foundation to secure the Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection and a $750,000 gift by Anne Cox Chambers to secure the sketches of U.S. Congressman and Civil Rights Leader John Lewis. The center will be located on Pemberton Place, near Centennial Olympic Park. SHELIA M. POOLE

A Georgia Tech math professor was among 94 researchers honored by President Obama Monday with the the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. The award is considered the highest honor the government can give to science and engineering researchers in the early stages of their careers. Maria G.
