Georgia’s finest spellers are set to complete Friday at the 50th annual Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee. The competition kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. at Georgia State University’s student center. The winner will represent the state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington June 1-2. “To see these young people start out and experience the highs and lows of competition, and to see how they grow and gain confidence and grace in winning and losing makes it all worthwhile,” said Richard McIntyre, GAE State Spelling Bee Committee chair and master of ceremonies for the competition for 23 of the 50 years.
