Marietta celebrates aviation history, military

Former Gov. Roy Barnes and Ambassador Andrew Young will be special guests at the “Hearts for Heroes II” celebration Thursday in Marietta.

The event commemorates Marietta’s aviation history and military, and will feature several high-ranking military officials. The celebration begins at 6 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 117 N. Park Square.

Roswell festival makes biking an art form

In celebration of the Roswell Cycling Festival, the Roswell Cultural Arts Board will have a display of reconstructed bicycles and bicycle parts throughout the city’s streets. Roswell Bicycles has donated 20 bikes in hopes of having local artists turn them into works of art for April. Artist entry forms can be found at www.roswellgov.com/movingparts or at the Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department at City Hall at 38 Hill St. The deadline for entry is Saturday.

New commissioners get their TV close-up

The latest episode of “Forsyth in Focus” on TV Forsyth, Comcast Channel 23, introduces county residents to the two new members of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, District 1 Commissioner Pete Amos and District 3 Commissioner Todd Levent. Two from Cherokeeon advisory board

Two Cherokee County educators have been named to Gov. Nathan Deal’s newly formed Education Advisory Board, which aims to provide feedback and input on school issues facing Georgia.

Cherokee County school board member Janet Read and Dean Rusk Middle School social studies teacher Kurt Wheeler were appointed to the 53-member advisory panel, which consists of groups of superintendents, principals, teachers and school board members from around the state. Mark Woolsey for the AJC

Chefs cook to support scholarships

The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its sixth annual Chefs of the World: A Taste of Fame, at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. The fundraising event is designed to showcase creations by Atlanta’s top chefs. A portion of the proceeds will support scholarships for students pursuing degrees in hospitality or culinary arts.
