Metro briefs for Monday

Morehouse School of Medicine selected an endocrinologist and infertility specialist to serve as the college's new dean and executive vice president, officials announced this week.

Valerie Montgomery Rice, a Georgia native with ties to Georgia Tech and Emory University School of Medicine, is scheduled to begin June 1.

Rice started and currently directs the Center for Women’s Health Research at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. The center focuses on diseases that disproportionately impact women of color.

Works by important Southern historians such as E. Merton Coulter, Albert Berry Saye, and Kenneth Coleman can be downloaded for free through a new digital book project.

The University of Georgia Press and the Digital Library of Georgia are collaborating to make books about the state's history more accessible to students, researchers and general readers.

So far 49 books have been transferred, including some out-of-print.
