Investigators believe a 65-year-old man had a medical emergency that led to a single-vehicle crash that killed him, Cobb County police said Friday.
Wiley Dale Pannell of Hiram was driving a silver, 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on Macland Road, west of Lost Mountain Road, when he ran off the road about 2 p.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce.
“As the car continued on the shoulder of the road, it finally came to a stop after striking a small tree and a light pole,” Pierce said in an emailed statement.
Pannell was taken by ambulance to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
