The McDonough City Council during its Aug. 2 workshop meeting reviewed the progress of plans for a new police precinct at 342 Simpson Street.

The council voted unanimously to move forward with bidding for construction. The proposed facility, to be built near Rufus Stewart Park, will have community room space and there have been talks about a mini clinic being established there by an existing nonprofit medical organization, according to city officials.

Hands of Hope Clinic wants to provide medical care, dentistry, psychiatric services and various medical supplies and medication needs, city staff reported.
