McDonough buys land near square for parking

The land and building at 41 Hampton Street near the McDonough square will soon become the property of the city. The decision to buy the site for $274,000 was part of the consent agenda at the City Council’s Nov. 20 meeting. The money for the purchase will come from the city’s general fund. Officials said that demolition of the building on the site will begin soon after the transaction is closed, hopefully in December.

The city also approved the purchase of six vehicles for various departments at a cost of just over $160,000.
