A 52-year-old college professor rubbed his eyes and triple-checked his scratch-off ticket showing he’d won a $25,000 cash prize.

Carlos Gonzalez of Savannah won playing a $1,000,000 777 Slots of Luck scratch-off, Georgia Lottery spokeswoman Nia Roberts said.

“I’ve never won a prize that big,” he said. “I kept looking to see if the symbols were the same.”

Gonzalez, who teaches math and science at Savannah College of Art and Design, said he was in disbelief.

He had only decided to buy a ticket while out buying groceries at the Walmart on Abercorn Street in Savannah, Roberts said.

The money Gonzalez claimed Tuesday will go toward car repairs and bills, he said.
