MARTA suspends 500 over new manners rules

Since MARTA’s new code of conduct went into effect Nov. 9, some 500 passengers have been suspended from riding the transit system for failing to mind their manners.
And if they need more evidence that shenanigans like smoking, listening to loud music or harassing other riders won’t be tolerated, the transit system’s patrons could soon get it.
MARTA officials want state lawmakers to pass legislation allowing them levy a fine in cases where that is more appropriate than banishing people from riding. So far, the majority of offenses for which passengers were suspended were fare evasion, smoking and listening to loud music.
