MARTA on Wednesday identified the bus driver stabbed during an apparent robbery as a six-year veteran of the transit agency.

Janet Royston, 52, was treated for her injuries at Atlanta Medical Center and was released from the hospital, MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said.

Police were seeking her attacker Wednesday evening.

Royston was injured shortly before midnight Tuesday during a robbery aboard her bus on Green Forest Drive at Gay Drive, in a neighborhood off Columbia Drive in DeKalb County.

"At this point, we understand that robbery was the motive in this attack," Harris said.

He said the bus was stopped when the suspect, who had been a passenger on the bus, stabbed the driver.
