A MARTA bus driver struck a tree in Tucker late Thursday, and the accident sent six passengers and the driver to local hospitals, a MARTA spokesman said Friday.

The accident occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday at LaVista Road and Reserve Way, according to spokesman Lyle Harris. He said those injured were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and Atlanta Medical Center.

At least one male passenger was listed in stable condition at Grady on Friday. The conditions of the other passengers and driver were not immediately known. It was not known how many passengers were on the bus.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, the MARTA spokesman said. DeKalb police charged the driver with failure to maintain his lane and leaving the roadway.
