Marietta officials are seeking bids from artists or art teams to make artwork for an historic African-American site that will become a new park.
Both the Elizabeth Porter Community Center and an African-American hospital occupied this location for more than 60 years at North Marietta Parkway and Allgood Road.
With a fall 2016 opening scheduled, the new park will include a splash pad, playground, walking track, two pavilions and restrooms.
Reflecting the history of the city’s African-American community, a mural is one idea by the Elizabeth Porter Historic Monument, Art and Murals Committee.
The total budget for the artwork is $40,000 with September 2016 as the completion date. Bids must be submitted by 2 p.m. Nov. 30.
