The Marietta Police Department is holding registration for the next free Pastor’s Police Academy that begins Oct. 5.

This academy is designed to provide faith-based leaders with understanding of the department’s daily operations while also getting to know some of the officers, according to a police department statement.

Participants will learn from department personnel about such topics as police ethics, community outreach, judgmental use of force, drug trends, gangs, social media, child crimes, police-media relations, S.W.A.T. and traffic stops.

Eligible participants must be active faith-based leaders at faith-based organizations within Marietta, but requests to participate are not a guarantee of entry into this course.

Graduates of the program will be invited to quarterly faith-based leader forums when the police and faith-based leaders will discuss important issues affecting the Marietta community.

Participants will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for six consecutive Thursday nights.

Register: Officer Brian Vaughan at 770-794-5328 or bvaughan@mariettaga.gov.
