Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin and the City Council will hold two public hearings before voting on whether to increase salaries of the next mayor and council members when their terms begin on Jan. 1, 2018.
These salaries have not changed since 2006.
If this change to the city’s charter is approved, the mayor’s salary would increase from $18,000 to $25,200 plus $5,000 for serving on the Board of Lights and Water.
Salaries of council members would rise from $13,000 to $18,900.
Those hearings are scheduled for 7 p.m. July 13 and Aug. 10 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 205 Lawrence St., Marietta.
This month Tumlin broke a tie vote, calling for the two public hearings on this matter.
Also favoring the hearings were Councilwoman Michelle Cooper Kelly and Councilmen Stuart Fleming and Philip Goldstein.
Opposed were Councilmen Grif Chalfant, Andy Morris and Johnny Walker.
