The new Marietta Early Learning Center will be known as the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center based upon a unanimous vote by the Marietta Board of Education on May 15.

Lembeck served as the superintendent of Marietta City Schools from 2004 to 2016 when she retired.

Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera said on the agenda that Lembeck inspired the vision for this new center to “provide our youngest learners with more comprehensive support and services, with particular attention to kindergarten readiness and reading on grade level by third grade.”

On May 15, the board also awarded contracts of $26,379 to Virtucom for touch panel displays; $23,393 to The School Box, Inc. and almost $19,877 to Opening the World of Learning - both for the initial curriculum materials that are required by the Georgia Early Learning governing authority.

While the center is full for the fall, families are encouraged to complete a wait list form by contacting Christine Ramirez at cramirez@marietta-city.k12.ga.us.

To be eligible, children must be four years old on Sept. 1, 2018.
