With Councilman Philip Goldstein abstaining, the Marietta City Council voted 6-0 Oct. 11 to claim property belonging to Goldstein and his parents for a city project.
City officials will file an eminent domain petition to acquire property, belonging to Goldstein and his mother, to complete the Denmead Street Extension. Also, city officials will pay $6,121 to Goldstein’s father, Herbert S. Goldstein, for the condemnation settlement for 72 Waverly Way as a temporary construction easement by the city.
These actions conclude negotiations with Goldstein, going back to April when Mayor Steve Tumlin requested the reopening of Denmead Street from the Dobb Street Extension to Mill Street.
This extension is needed for access for the proposed Marietta Square Market, a food hall at 68 Marietta North Parkway in the Marietta Station.
Marietta Square Market is expected to open next year with about 12 to 14 restaurants.
