Marietta to consider slowing traffic near schools

The Marietta City Council will consider reducing the speed limit on Polk Street from 35 mph to 20 mph as a part of continuing measures to slow traffic around Marietta Middle School and Westside Elementary School.

Councilman Johnny Walker proposed reducing speed limits to slow traffic around the two schools after parents complained of children’s safety to and from school.

Speed limits were reduced on Maple Avenue earlier this month, and the council approved two driver feedback signs. The council will meet 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 205 Lawrence St.
