A missing 71-year-old man with dementia was found safe Wednesday, the GBI said.
A Mattie's call had been issued for Charles Floyd. Authorities originally said he was last seen just before 1:30 p.m. in the 17200 block of Birmingham Highway in Alpharetta.
Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, told the AJC that authorities then confirmed that Floyd was picked up by a taxi in Milton, taken to a bank to cash a check, and then driven to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Floyd was dropped off at the South Terminal and was believed to be attempting to travel to see family, Baker said.
"He was located on a flight to Virginia," Baker said. "He has family there. They have been notified and are going to meet him at the airport there."
