A man accused of falsely reporting that he saw an armed man aiming a sniper rifle at a school bus — prompting the school district and law enforcement to go on heightened alert - has been released from the Clayton County Jail, officials confirmed Sunday.

Codarrius Rayshun Brewer of Hampton was arrested Friday and charged with making a false arrest and obstruction after allegedly admitting he made up the story.

Police said Brewer reported that around 7 a.m. on May 14 he saw a man crouched in the backyard of a house in the area of Paladin Drive in Hampton and pointing what appeared to be a rifle at a passing school bus.

Brewer allegedly said the man dropped the rifle and ran when he yelled at him, police said.

Police said Brewer also placed the rifle and a note near the backyard fence in an effort to shore up his story.
