A man on the run for nearly three weeks after authorities found his estranged wife's body in her Hampton home has been captured in a wooded area of DeKalb County, Channel 2 Action News reports.
Preston Marzette Young, 38, is being held without bond in Henry County Jail on charges of murder, battery and cruelty to children in the third degree, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Sharon Sylvester Young, 45, was found dead Aug. 11 in her home in the 300 block of Master’s Club Boulevard, in the exclusive Crystal Lake Country Club subdivision, after the victim’s 3-year-old granddaughter pushed the OnStar button in a vehicle at the residence.
The woman had been strangled, authorities said.
Sheriff’s investigators initially tracked Young to the Tampa area, but the trail ultimately led back to the vicinity of a McDonald’s restaurant on Chamblee-Tucker Road in DeKalb County.
“Apparently Mr. Young had been staying in the wooded area behind this restaurant,” Maj. David Foster of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2. “My investigator found a large amount of camping equipment … that belonged to Mr. Young.”
Authorities set up surveillance and took Young into custody Wednesday.
