Clayton County police are investigating an apparent homicide that occured around 9:35 p.m. Monday at the Stonebrook Apartments in the 1600 block of Norman Drive. A man was shot several times and was killed in the incident.

Residents told police they heard gunshots shortly before finding the victim outside of Building 22. He’d been shot several times in the back.

Witnesses told police the victim was part of a group of people that got into an argument with another group. The verbal fight escalated into a physical one, then ended in the shooting.

The victim later died at Southern Regional Medical Center. His identity was not released.

Police officials said one person is in custody and more arrests are expected. The identity of the person in custody hasn’t been released.
