DeKalb County police are looking for the gunman who robbed and shot a man Thursday morning at a Buford Highway apartment complex.

The shooting happened about 6:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Buckhead Creek Apartments in the 2800 block of Buford Highway.

DeKalb police Lt. V.C. Dankewich told the AJC that the victim was leaving for work when he was accosted by the suspect, who “produced a handgun and asked for his money.”

“The victim gave him his wallet, and once he gave him the wallet, the suspect shot him in the leg and left the scene on foot,” Dankewich said.

Dankewich said the victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that was not believed to be life-threatening.

He said investigators were awaiting a K-9 unit to try to track the gunman, who according to a witness ran behind a nearby building after the shooting.

Abigail Elizonbo, the resident manager of the apartments, said the victim has lived at the complex for about two years.

“He’s a hard worker, good father, a good tenant,” Elizonbo said.

“It’s scary,” she said of Thursday morning’s shooting. “All the tenants are scared now.”
