Man killed, wife and 7 kids injured in I-85 crash

Jan 4, 2013

The Georgia State Patrol continued to investigate a wreck in west Georgia that killed a Riverdale man and injured his wife and seven children.

Victor Allen Moorer, 30, was driving northbound on I-85 in Meriwether County when the family’s 2003 Nissan Xterra left the roadway and overturned into a wooded area, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said in a news release. The driver’s side of the Xterra hit a tree.

Victor Moorer died, and two of the children — Shania Moorer, 11, and Chase Moorer, 3 — were airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Wright said.

The other siblings — ages 10, 9, 7, 5 and a 9-month-old baby — were being treated and released, he said. Moorer’s wife, whose name has not been released, was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital. All of the family members had been released from hospitals by Friday, the state patrol said.

The family was returning home from visiting relatives in Montgomery, Ala., when the wreck occurred, Wright said.
