Man killed at West End mall identified

July 18, 2012

The man shot and killed outside a restaurant at The Mall West End on Tuesday has been identified as Asiel Parker, 21, of College Park.

Parker was conscious and breathing after being shot in the chest and leg. But he did not survive his injuries, police said Tuesday evening.

Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News the incident happened near the Subway restaurant in the mall's parking lot. One witness reported seeing men arguing in the parking lot before the shooting, Channel 2 reported.

Officers responded around 3 p.m. and determined the shooting did not happen inside the restaurant, despite some witness reports.

The suspected shooter ran and got into a gray or silver Pontiac, witnesses told Channel 2. Investigators were searching for the suspect Wednesday and reviewing surveillance camera footage for possible clues.

This incident follows two recent shootings at the mall, located off 1-20 at Lee Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.

On the evening of June 27, Atlanta police shot and killed a man who they said was a fugitive from Mississippi. And in the early morning hours of May 15, three men were wounded after police said they exchanged gunfire during a computer deal that went awry in the 700 block of Lee Street.
