A man was injured Monday morning when he was struck by a freight train in College Park, authorities said.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. off Sullivan Road near the Green Springs apartments.
College Park fire Capt. Brian MacGregor White told the AJC that the CSX train’s crew “came around a curve and he was standing there on the tracks, waving at them.”
The train’s engineer tried to stop, but struck the man, knocking him to the side of the tracks.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of multiple fractures.
MacGregor White did not have a condition on the man, but said he was talking to emergency responders before being transported to the hospital. He also did not know why the man was on the tracks.
“I just know he was talking to us, which kind of surprised me,” he said, adding that this is the fourth such incident he had worked in 20 years, “and it’s the first one where I’ve had them talking to me.”
