A man was hit and killed after he ran in front of a Cobb Community Transit bus traveling up I-75, Atlanta police confirmed Wednesday.

According to a witness on the bus Saturday evening, Robert Thomas Leggett Jr. ran in front of the fully-loaded CCT bus just south of the West Paces Ferry exit off a northbound lane of I-75.

“All of a sudden, the bus driver made a sharp turn to the right and slammed on the brakes,” said Ken Smith, one of the passengers. “Some guy had run from the center of the highway. The bus hit him, and he went through the windshield almost.”

Leggett’s body landed on the interstate behind the bus, Smith said.

The 31-year-old man was dead at the scene.

Atlanta police spokesman officer Otis Redmond said the driver was not charged and the accident was still under investigation.
