Henry County fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that left one man dead.
The blaze was reported just before 3 a.m. Saturday at a home on Clemons Road near Stockbridge.
“On arrival, units were faced with a single-story residential structure heavily engulfed in flames, with approximately 90 percent involvement,” Henry fire Capt. Sabrina Puckett said Tuesday.
Puckett said five of the six residents were able to escape without serious injury, but four of those were taken to a local hospital for evaluation of possible smoke inhalation.
“Unfortunately, one resident, an elderly male, was unable to escape,” Puckett said in a press release. That man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday.
