A 77-year-old south Fulton County man, charged with a hit-and-run wreck that critically injured a man walking his dog, was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond, authorities said.
Investigators in Palmetto said evidence at the crime scene, including a broken headlight, was consistent with damage to a Ford F150 pickup truck belonging to James Calvin Wood Sr.
Wood, of Chattahoochee Hills, was arrested and charged with felony hit and run and felony injury by vehicle after being interviewed by police, Palmetto police said Tuesday.
Wood is accused of hitting a 78-year-old man who was walking his dog on Carlton Road just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, police said. The victim, John Turner, remained in critical condition Tuesday at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he has had surgeries due to his injuries.
Turner, a resident of a nearby adult care facility, was flown to Grady after a passerby called 911, police said. Turner's dog, a beagle, was located unharmed after being reported missing.
Wood was booked into the Fulton County Jail, where he spent the night before being released Wednesday, according to the Fulton Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's website lists bonds totaling $5,o00 for Wood, but a sheriff's spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon that the man had been released on a signature bond, which does not require cash. Wood's next court date was pending
