A Cobb County man faces an involuntary manslaughter charge following a fatal ATV wreck on the Silver Comet Trail, authorities said Thursday.

Randall Giansiracusa, 52, of Austell, will also be charged with reckless conduct and criminal trespass and could face additional charges pending the results of toxicology tests, Cobb County police Officer Mike Bowman told the AJC.

Giansiracusa and 52-year-old Elizabeth "Betsy" Neesley were riding an ATV on the trail shortly after midnight June 30 when their vehicle hit a metal post, police said. Neesley, of Austell, was thrown from the ATV and died at the scene, and the ATV ignited.

Giansiracusa, who owned the ATV, was not seriously injured and was treated at the scene, police previously said. Witnesses reported seeing both Giansiracusa and Neesley driving the ATV, and police have said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.

The 61-mile Silver Comet Trail, which starts in Smyrna and runs to the Georgia-Alabama state line, is open only from dawn until dusk, and motorized vehicles are prohibited, according to rules posted along the trail. The metal post was intended to prevent vehicles from entering the trail, a popular spot for joggers and bicyclists.

Giansiracusa, whose last name is listed as Siracusa on the Cobb County jail website, turned himself in Thursday morning. He was released at 3:45 p.m. after posting $20,000 bond, jail records show.

An Ohio native, Neesley moved to Georgia in 1983, according to her published obituary. She was a former member of the Junior League of Atlanta and is survived by a son.
