A 20-year-old Woodstock man running late to his drug court graduation allegedly struck a crossing guard Tuesday afternoon and kept going, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office.

Victor Baruchman was arrested Wednesday morning in the incident in which crossing guard Jerrold Reaid suffered a broken ankle.

Baruchman has been charged with felony hit and run and his bond has been set at $15,000. He is being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, according to sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker.

The car that struck Reaid, 63, was described as a silver Honda Prelude driven by a white male wearing a black hat, black shirt and sunglasses. The car had a large white sticker of the Tennessee Volunteers’ “T” on the back window, according to Baker.

When detectives discovered Baruchman’s 2000 2-door Honda Accord, the “T” had been scraped off the back window and the front bumper of the vehicle had been removed, Baker said.

The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday on Bells Ferry Road near Canton. Reaid, who was hit while directing traffic outside Liberty Elementary School, was treated for a broken ankle and released from Northside Cherokee Hospital, according to Baker, who said Reaid has been a crossing guard for six years.
